HomeAgain recently started a recycling initiative driven by both our staff and residents at our Espigh Family Shelter. We do not qualify for the city’s recycling services, which are available only to residential buildings; however, that hasn’t hindered our environment-conscious efforts. Recycling bins are available for clients and staff to utilize, then discarded items are delivered by our dedicated staff to a local recycling center. In addition to incorporating recycling practices, the shelter program has made a conscious switch to using more plant-based products, such as soy alternatives to dairy, which are provided by the Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation. Prioritizing environmentally friendly choices results in our shelters reducing our carbon footprint, while also modeling positive practices to HomeAgain clients that can be replicated when they move out of shelter and into housing.
