Caregiving households can now receive emergency shelter services at HomeAgain’s Espigh Family Shelter. Richmond’s network of community service providers, known as the Greater Richmond Continuum of Care, define caregiving households as typically two adults in which one has a disability making them dependent on the other adult for support. Caregivers provide a range of support and assistance, including: physical and mental health, substance abuse, and other assistance needs. When it comes to receiving housing services, caregiving households will be given equal prioritization as that of families with dependent children.
This change comes at an exciting time as April is Fair Housing Month. Serving a unique demographic will help promote housing equity for all types of families. By providing emergency shelter for caregiving households, HomeAgain is able to assist more families experiencing a housing crisis to find and maintain a home, again!
